Collieries, steelworks, gasometers: What was once the most important industrial region in the world is now one of the most impressive sights in the Ruhr region - and the Duisburg Landschaftspark Youth Hostel is right next door to former industrial giants.

The centrepiece of the landscape park, which now covers around 200 hectares, is the former smelting works. 30 years have now passed since the last shift here. Today, the entire area is one of the most important witnesses to the high industrialisation and culture of the Ruhr region, with many extraordinary cultural events taking place throughout the year against its imposing backdrop.

Indoor and outdoor activities such as high-rope climbing amongst disused blast furnaces, diving in the gasometer or a Segway tour on a spoil tip attract many visitors every year. There’s plenty to discover in Duisburg too: from the inland port, which is one of the largest in the world, to modern sculpture at the Lehmbruck Museum and the bustling inner harbour on the edge of the city centre – discover the highlights along the Industrial Heritage Route!

School classes, conference guests and families in particular appreciate this extraordinary experience. Cycling guests also get their money's worth in the youth hostel, which is certified by the ADFC as a bed & bike centre. Situated in a historic building, the hostel welcomes its guests in bright and modern rooms with en-suite bathrooms. The youth hostel offers conference guests a professional conference atmosphere.
